I chose this artefact because of my philosophy on Educational Tech, and how it should be used. The availability of the technology and how it will affect our lives in the future.
As I looked at this topic, I remember saying that technology is something that everyone has. It can be used for the good or for the bad depending on how you use it. There should be a balance between the online world and offline world, as the world is consumed by the internet.
It’s interesting how the deeper I look at this topic and do more research, reality seems more and more bleak when we actually see what’s going around us. What’s sad to me is when you’re eating out for dinner and everyone around the table is glued to their phones. I’ve seen that firsthand when I went for dinner.
I learnt that there should be rules about device usage and how you should react when someone at the table is using it at a terrible time. Some sort of punishment may be required but it all depends on what your group agrees on.
It’s a good idea to put up these rules and stick with them. A great idea I’ve heard was that when a group of friends go out for a meal, they will put their phones in the middle of the table. The first person to pick it up would have to pay for everyone’s meal, unless there is a necessary call or text that needs to be responded to.
My take away from this topic is that we should limit our online interactions and put up rules around our technology usage to keep our real life interactions alive and not awkward. I believe that people should have good times in person and not just online. It’s in our human nature to have interactions with others and not be alone. By making sure we keep this interaction alive, our mental health will benefit from it as well.
